Bethenny Frankel Announces Her New ‘Business Is Personal’ Book

At this point in the world of business and entertainment, Bethenny Frankel has indisputably become a household name. Between her early standout days on The Real Housewives of New York City to her creation of the ever-expanding Skinnygirl line of products, Frankel continues to build an empire with her own Bethenny brand today. And though she is already a New York Times bestselling author, Frankel has yet to bring her business story and her professional advice to the page – until now.

The self-made business leader, reality television star, and Just B with Bethenny Frankel podcast host announces today that she will soon be releasing her first book centered around business titled Business is Personal: The Truth About What It Takes to Be Successful While Staying True to Yourself. The book is not scheduled for release until May 17, 2022, but Frankel is speaking exclusively with me at Forbes to share some exciting details surrounding her big announcement.

“In my life, I only ever write a book if it’s just sort of dying to come out of me,” Frankel reveals. “So many people say It’s not personal, it’s just business. But it’s like, it is personal because it’s business. What could be more personal than something that you take time away from your relationships, your family, your life that you can’t attend certain things? Some people say If you love what you do. Yes, I love what I do but sometimes, you got to pull from within because you’re exhausted and you’ve worked for many hours. That’s why I always sort of just wanted to correct that saying It’s not personal, it’s just business. It’s very personal.”

Frankel goes on to tell me that she is well-aware that her personal life is intertwined with her business decisions more than most people, being a public figure now for well over a decade, ever since the hit reality series The Real Housewives of New York City first premiered in 2008.

When I asked Frankel who or what motivated her most to write this first business book of hers, she factors in her chosen exit from the Bravo reality series as a major reason, which initially was a business risk, but a bold decision that ultimately paid off well for Frankel.

“My decision to leave a television show that I was on for years and the peak moment where I was making more money than I was ever making in my life in a salary. That’s the reason that people stay. No one walks away from money like that, but there are other things that are more important – your peace of mind and building a brand and playing chess and not checkers, meaning not just staying somewhere because of money but leaving because you have a greater goal.”

Since then, Frankel has focused on growing her various areas of business, while also making the time to give back through her BStrong Global Empowerment Mission, where Frankel and her philanthropic team provide food, emergency aid, and other necessities to people in regions affected by natural disasters and other hardships.

So, who will be the target audience for Frankel’s new Business is Personal book? “Business people will find comfort in it in the same way my podcast speaks to business people in a non-traditional sense,” Frankel says. “We’re speaking to moguls that have all come up and done it in a very unique way. These people have figured it out in their own way. This applies to a traditional entrepreneur, this applies to someone working in corporate America in a cubicle, this applies to a mom who’s great at making cookies and wants to scale that as a business. It really works for so many different people. If you have in your gut instinct the desire to be an entrepreneur, to be a businessperson, or just to find your way to the top of the corporate structure, it works for you. This works for anybody who has a passion and drive and interest in business.”

With the release of Business Is Personal still about five months away, Frankel is optimistic about the strategic timing of its arrival onto shelves, following this challenging couple of years for us all in this ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. “The world will hopefully be getting back to whatever the new normal is and this book will come at a time for everyone to kick into high gear and really say OK, we had this crazy, brief interruption in service, but now, how do I apply the tools in this book and be as effective, efficient, productive, connect to the work and to my staff and be able to just execute our visions and our dreams, our goals?

Before Frankel and I wrapped up our conversation, in appropriate fashion that holds up to the second part of her new book’s title The Truth About What It Takes to Be Successful While Staying True to Yourself, Frankel made it a point to inform me that this book will fearlessly share not only her victories in business but also the downfalls, bringing the authenticity Frankel lives by to the page with her sound advice and credible wisdom. “I tell so many stories in the book about stuff when the shit hits the fan and the problems I still have now and the struggles I have now with it. It’s just a very honest account of the roadblocks, the wins, the thought process, the decisions, the flaws, all of it.”
