GeM Portal: Big news has come about the government procurement portal GeM and the purchase of goods and services on it has crossed the mark of one lakh crore rupees so far in the current financial year. The reason for this is the increase in the procurement activities of different ministries and departments of the country. Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are among the top five states that shop from this portal. The Government e-Market (GeM) portal was launched on August 9, 2016 for online procurement of goods and services by all Ministries and Departments of the Central Government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet on Tuesday that the GeM portal is going to be a ‘game changer’ for the country in terms of entrepreneurship enthusiasm and transparency. In a tweet, PM Modi said, “Very good news. GeM is going to be a game changer in enhancing India’s entrepreneurial spirit and transparency. I appreciate those showcasing their products on this platform and ask others to do the same.” Am.” PM Modi expressed his happiness while sharing a tweet by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal earlier shared the procurement data from the GeM platform. It was told that the gross merchandise value of GeM has crossed one lakh crore rupees and this figure is for the financial year 2023 till 29 November 2022. He wrote in his tweet that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach to democratic and transparent public procurement has created a platform that has emerged as a reliable partner for businesses, especially MSMEs.
GeM CEO PK Singh expressed great hope
GeM Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PK Singh said that considering the current trend, this figure could reach Rs 1.80 lakh crore by the end of this financial year. PK Singh said yesterday, “Today we have crossed Rs 1 lakh crore mark. Our target for the current financial year was Rs 1.5 lakh crore but going by the current trend, we can reach Rs 1.80 lakh crore”.
