The City Council voted to allow children between the ages of 5 and 11 who are eligible to get a Covid-19 vaccine to not have to show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test to enter some indoor spaces, but those over the age of 12 will still need to.
The original mandate required everyone who was eligible to get the Covid-19 vaccine to show proof of vaccination or provide a negative Covid-19 test, however that was passed before the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention gave emergency use authorization for the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to 11.
The City Council removed malls and shopping centers from the list of places that require proof of Covid-19 vaccination to enter.
The council also authorized the Department of Building and Safety and law enforcement officers to fine businesses that defy the mandate $1,000 for second violations, $2,000 for third infractions and $5,000 for violations after that.

That is how many Los Angeles County residents have gotten at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine as of October 31, according to the California Health Department’s tracker, which is approximately 80.2% of the county population, while 6.3 million residents have been fully vaccinated by that date.

Last month, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and the city council passed a law requiring bars and nightclubs to start checking proof of vaccination on November 4 and required all other indoor spaces included in the mandate to begin checking vaccination proof on November 8. People are allowed to file for a religious or medical exemption.

Anticipating a potential Covid-19 winter surge, the California Department of Public Health has asked clinics not to turn away adults who are looking to get a vaccine booster shot, despite the fact that the U.S. Food and Drug administration has not yet approved them for the general population. It has recommended boosters for Americans over the age of 65, the immunocompromised or those who are at a higher risk of exposure to coronavirus because of their work.
