One of Karan Johar’s most awaited and talked about projects, Takht has finally been shelved after a long wait. The film was based on the history of Mughals in India, telling the story of Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh. The film was to star Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal amongst many big names in the lead ensemble cast.
After a the delays due to the lockdown, Karan has finally decided to call off the project for several reasons. One of the reasons being that Fox Star which was producing the film with Dharma backed out and Karan could not get another production house to invest in the film in the current situation. A source revealed, “Takht made no sense in the present context. It was meant to be an expensive historical costume drama, a collaboration between Karan Johar’s Dharma Production and Fox-Star. But Fox-star folded up and its replacement has been re-examining its long-standing relationship with Dharma Productions. Also, it was based on rather controversial Moghul history. Besides this, given the financial pitfalls Karan Johar has decided to shelve Takht and do a light-hearted romantic family film.”
Now that Takht is off the table, Karan will concentrate on his next rom-com, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani that stars Alia and Ranveer in the lead.
