BTS’s new single “Butter” is so popular, it inspires people in the band’s home country to not just head to YouTube to watch the official clip (and rewatch over and over), but to seek out any and all different versions of the summery smash, as they just can’t get enough of it. This week, eight different takes on the tune are present on YouTube’s list of the most-watched music videos in South Korea, proving the composition’s incredible popularity and staying power.
Steady at No. 1 on the weekly ranking for a third go is the actual “Butter” music video. The visual loses ground every frame, but so far, nothing has been able to push it out of the top spot. This time around, the clip is steady atop the ranking with another 2.09 million plays, which is down more than 35% from last week.
BTS occupy three spots inside the top 10 on this week’s ranking of the most-watched music videos in South Korea, and they also score the second-loftiest debut this time around. The Cooler Remix of “Butter,” which came with its own video, opens at No. 3 with 1.3 million views. Just two spots down is the group’s special performance of the “Butter” choreography, which was also released as a separate video. That upload earned 970,000 plays in South Korea alone in its second week on the tally.
Down from the top 10 are BTS’s performance of “Butter” at the Billboard Music Awards (No. 4 to No. 13, 459,000 views) and the Hotter remix of the original cut (No. 2 to No. 17, 379,000 views).
Two other popular “Butter”-related videos also fall from where they ranked last time around, with BTS’s Good Morning America performance sliding to No. 20 (313,000 views), while their showing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert comes in at No. 48 (122,000 views).
BTS are responsible for seven of the eight “Butter” videos currency present inside the top 100 on YouTube’s weekly chart of the most-consumed uploads in South Korea, while another popular musician helps the septet see their latest single snag one more rung. Seoryoung, who is perhaps best known as a member of the K-pop girl group GWSN, debuts her cover of “Butter” at No. 87 with just under 59,000 views.
Clearly, “Butter” is not just a massive hit because it’s promoted by BTS. It’s so well put together as a song, even other musical acts can land impressive wins with the cut.
