India-China: China said on Wednesday that it opposes the Indo-US joint military exercise near the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Along with this, China alleged that it violates the spirit of the two border agreements signed between Delhi and Beijing.
Explain that the 18th edition of Indo-US joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas’ is going on in Uttarakhand, about 100 km from the Line of Actual Control. It aims to enhance interoperability and share expertise between the two armies in peacekeeping and disaster relief operations.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in a media briefing that the joint military exercise between India and the US near the LAC on the China-India border violates the spirit of the agreement between China and India in 1993 and 1996. In response to a question asked by a journalist from Pakistan, he said that this does not fulfill the mutual trust between China and India.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s reference to the 1993 and 1996 agreements is interesting, as India termed the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) efforts to send large numbers of troops to the disputed areas along the LAC in eastern Ladakh in May 2020 as a violation of bilateral agreements. According to which the boundary dispute is to be resolved through peaceful and friendly consultations.
Earlier on Wednesday, a joint military training exercise between the Indian and US forces took place. Soldiers of both countries practiced to handle the situation during the disaster in the mountainous areas. US Army officer Brady Carroll said that we are conducting a joint exercise regarding flash floods and similar situations. It focuses on further strengthening the defense assistance mission and relationship between the Indian Army and the US Army.
Army had tweeted information
