Pakistan Audio Leaked: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday (September 27) announced that a high-level committee would be formed to investigate the incident of audio leak from the Prime Minister’s Office. Controversy has arisen over this matter and the opposition has demanded Sharif’s resignation.
It is noteworthy that last week the audio of the alleged secret conversation with the top officials of the PM’s government was circulated on social media, after which questions were raised about the security of the country’s top office.
Shehbaz Sharif said, “I am taking cognizance of it and a committee will be constituted for investigation to get deeper into the matter.” He termed the leak incident as a “very serious lapse”. Said that now people will think before going to ‘PM House’. Also told that “now who will come to meet the Prime Minister in ‘PM House’? Be it a sympathizer or a friend, he will think 100 times before talking. It is about respect for 22 crore people of the country.
The video showed that the conversations of the secret meetings were being tapped. In one such clip, Sharif and his Principal Secretary Tauqir Shah are shown talking about importing machinery from India for the son-in-law of the Prime Minister’s niece Maryam Nawaz.
Pakistani PM clarified
Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif Sharif said that Maryam never spoke to him about any favors for her son-in-law. He said, “Dr Tauqeer spoke to me about this and said that half the machinery was imported during the tenure of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Don’t know how much money was spent and how much loss they will have to bear if half the machinery is left. Dr Tauqeer told me that the provision is restricted and it has to be taken to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC). Also questioned, “I said that I will tell this to my daughter (niece Maryam). Now tell me, what’s wrong with that?
‘Why nothing happened in the previous government’
Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif said that during his government many audios came out against former Prime Minister Imran Khan but nothing was done or he was not questioned. A joint investigation team has been constituted to investigate the matter, including representatives of the army’s intelligence agencies. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) is also investigating this leak case. Earlier, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Sharif has called a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) this week to consider the audio leak case.
