Russian Scientist Alleged To Pass Secret Information To China Related To Hypersonic Missile Technology

Russia-China Relation: Russia has arrested 76-year-old Anatoly Maslov, including the director of a Russian science institute, on charges of passing intelligence to China. Apart from this, two more hypersonic missile technology specialists have also been arrested. Reuters has given this information by quoting a person familiar with the matter. The matter will be heard on the 1st of next month.

Apart from Anatoly Maslov, Alexander Shipluk, head of Siberia’s Kristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ITAM), is suspected of handing over classified material at a scientific conference in China in 2017, sources said.

On this, 56-year-old Shipluk, citing his innocence, said that he had not shared classified information with anyone. However, Shipluk was arrested only in August last year.

Russia is keeping an eye
ITAM chief Alexander Shipluk said the intelligence being shared was freely available online. Asked about the allegations against ITAM experts, as well as previous treason cases involving China, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the security agency was keeping an eye on possible cases related to betrayal of the country. He said that this is a very important work. This is going on continuously and it is hardly possible to talk about any kind of trends here.

China denied the allegations
When the Chinese Foreign Ministry was asked about the Russian allegations, China denied targeting Russian scientists to get sensitive research. He said that China-Russia relations depend on trust. And Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is the world leader in hypersonic missiles, state-of-the-art weapons capable of carrying payloads up to 10 times the speed of sound to punch through air-defense systems.

However, last year also laser specialist Dmitry Kolar was arrested in Siberia on charges of treason, but he died due to cancer.
