August has only just begun, but already it is set to be chock full of solo superstars based in South Korea releasing new music. Some have been consistently churning out hits and successful albums, while others have taken time off to pursue other projects and are now happily finding their way back to the music world. Either way, fans are sure to be stoked for these five studio efforts, all of which are coming very, very soon.
Here are five of the most highly-anticipated K-pop releases coming in August.
August 5 – Kim Woojin – The Moment: A Minor
In October 2019, Stray Kids fans were surprised to hear that Woojin was leaving the band for undisclosed personal reasons. Now, almost two years later, he’s ready to finally show that he can be a star in his own right. Using the name Kim Woojin (instead of just Woojin), the musician is set to deliver his debut solo project The Moment: A Minor, which is coming August 5. The appropriately-titled “Ready Now” will serve as a lead single, and this latest chapter could be huge for the performer.
August 6 – SunMi – ⅙
SunMi has been working in the K-pop space for longer than most could ever hope, as she first debuted as a member of the group Wonder Girls way back in 2007. Now, nearly 15 years later, she’s still working, and she has new music coming in only a matter of hours. On August 6, SunMi will release her third solo EP (and first in the years) ⅙, which comes with the single “You Can’t Sit With Us.”
August 9 – Ha Sung-woon – Select Shop
After spending time as a member of both Hotshot and Wanna One, Ha Sung-woon now focuses his musical efforts on tunes he releases under his own name, and there’s more coming for fans later this month. After releasing his EP Sneakers back in June, the star is planning on repackaging that material and adding new tunes to create something new and special, a re-release titled Select Shop.
August 12 – Park Ji-hoon – My Collection
Fellow former Wanna One musician Park Ji-hoon is also enjoying his time as a beloved artist all on his own, and he has one more project to share with his adoring followers before September arrives. The singer-songwriter and performer simply-titled My Collection, an EP, is coming August 12, and it may net him his fifth top 10 on the Gaon Albums chart in the coming weeks.
August 26 – Jay B – TBA
For seven years, Got7 worked incredibly hard to become one of the most successful boy groups in South Korea (and beyond), and they succeeded. Earlier this year, the band left their label, and since then it hasn’t yet been made clear what the future holds for the act…though the members aren’t waiting around with nothing to do! Jay B, one of the seven singers who have conquered the charts as Got7, is returning with some project before August wraps, though exactly what fans can expect is a big question at the moment.
