Forget Adam Schefter, Jay Glazer and Peter King.
It’s often been said no one has a better handle on what’s happening in sports than the wise guys in Las Vegas.
And for the first time, the guys in the desert are predicting quarterback Aaron Rodgers won’t be a Green Bay Packer in 2021.
Bovada is asking bettors, ‘Will Aaron Rodgers take the Packers’ first snap in Week 1?’
Yes: EVEN (1/1)
No: -140 (5/7)
Bovada is also asking, ‘Will Aaron Rodgers Retire Before Week 1?
Yes: -400 (1/4)
No: +250 (5/2)
Through last weekend, sports books were still predicting Rodgers would be a Packer in 2021. As of Sunday, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the odds at -150 that Rodgers would play for the Packers in 2021.
The fact the odds have swung says the wise guys have new reasons to believe Rodgers is done in Green Bay.
Rodgers has been upset with the organization since it selected quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 draft to eventually replace him. Five hours before the NFL Draft on April 29, word leaked that Rodgers didn’t want to play for Green Bay ever again.
Rodgers’ camp let it be known the disgruntled quarterback wants general manager Brian Gutekunst fired. Pro Football Talk reported, “(Rodgers) doesn’t like anyone in the front office for a variety of reasons.”
The Athletic reported that Rodgers referred to Gutekunst as “Jerry Krause” — the man who built and tore down the Chicago Bulls dynasty in the 1990s — in group chats with teammates. And Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reported that Rodgers was telling Green Bay’s prospective free agents “before you make any decisions, I’m probably not gonna be there.”
Vegas is now taking Rodgers at his word that his time in Green Bay is over.
